And you’re likely not the only one. In fact, most people experience this crossroads at some point in their life. Now just happens to be your time.
The biggest indicator that you’re ready to move on is that you’re feeling unfulfilled by your role. No matter the project, no matter how great your work friends are, it’s just not feeling quite right anymore. And that’s only natural. YOU’RE ALWAYS STRESSED OUT:
While being stressed at times can be part of a job, if you find yourself waking up dreading going to the office, or find yourself constantly worrying about work-related things after hours, chances are it’s time to go. These things are taking a toll on your physical and mental health, and you’re not doing yourself any favours by sticking it out.
If you’re feeling this burnt out by your job, chances are you’re not performing as well as you could or would if you were feeling energized by work. So by staying in a role where you’re unhappy, you’re doing yourself and your employer a disservice.
THERE’S ZERO ROOM FOR GROWTH:
Plain and simple: if there’s no future for you in the company, it’s time to go. In most small businesses, there aren’t many roles popping up here and there, but if you see that there’s absolutely no upward mobility in the company, you’re wasting your time.
If the person directly above you (chances are, your best bet at a promotion) hasn’t left their role in years, and there’s not much else you can do at the company besides staying exactly where you are, it’s time to start looking for another job. This is less about your current state happiness and more about your career in the long-run, so even if you love your work friends and what you do, it’s time to put you on the front-burner.
YOU’VE CHECKED OUT:
You know the scene all too well: you make it to work on time, but just barely. You really just cannot find the energy in you to care, or put that extra effort that you were once known for. You’re doing work for the sake of getting it done, not for the love of it. You’re going through the motions, day in and day out, and you’re basically fed up. This is bad!
Not just because it’s time to go, but because it can end up costing you your good performance history. Before you leave a sour taste in your employer’s mouth, it’s time to start looking for a new job.
YOU JUST DON’T AGREE WITH THE COMPANY VALUES:
This happens from time to time. You once were so gung-ho about what the company stood for. Perhaps you’ve been burned by office culture, or perhaps your personal values have just shifted. Whatever it is, it’s time to assess whether you’re a good fit for the company anymore. If you find your personality drastically changing in the office (besides, you know, the professionalism you’re supposed to bring with you), then you know it’s probably not the best fit for you.
