MAKE IT A PRIORITY:
It’s as simple as that. When you’re in a relationship – and especially a long-term one – the romanticism tends to fade after time. And while that’s natural for every relationship, you shouldn’t let the post-honeymoon period of comfort and low expectations get in the way of spending time together, just the two of you.
While it’s easy to say “oh, we go on dates all the time”, think back to when you last spent real, quality time, that didn’t involve watching a movie on Netflix in your pajamas with a face mask on. If you can’t remember, then it’s time to schedule some date nights, ASAP! You and your boo definitely need it.
If you and bae are both incredibly busy individuals (and let’s be real: most millennials are), then scheduling date night is your best bet. Sit down and discuss a day and time that works for you, and clear it out of both of your calendars. Create an appointment on Google Calendar, and send an invite to your significant other so it appears on both of your calendars.
Once you’ve set that up and cleared time for the date, make sure to be fully present in the moment – meaning no work emails, no social media, no phone calls, just you and your SO enjoying each other’s company and conversation.
COOK DINNER TOGETHER:
A big reason why many couples don’t go on dates often is because there’s this misconception that going on dates has to be a super expensive thing. I mean, it can be, if you’re going out for dinner every week to a fine dining restaurant. But if you want to do a date on a budget, it’s totally possible, and in fact, will allow you and bae to spend even more time together.
One major way to do this is to cook dinner together. Not only are you saving money, but you’re making an otherwise boring activity fun, and you get to try out new recipes and learn even more about each other. Talk about a win-win!
TRY SOMETHING NEW:
An easy way to schedule a date night without even feeling like a date night is to try out something that you both have always wanted to do. What better excuse to spend some time together than by trying a new, fun activity you’ve both had your eye on, or maybe doing one for you, one for them, week after week.
Whether it’s trying out a new dance class like bachata or kizomba that’ll get you falling even more in love with each other, or doing something really fun and out of character like a paint and sip, trying out new activities with one another makes all of your date nights fun and fresh.
BREAK A SWEAT:
So you’ve both committed to spending some time in the gym (Carnival is just around the corner, in case you forgot!), so why not do it together and turn it into time spent together. Whether it’s going for a run around the Savannah together, trying out a new gym class or being the spotter for your SO when they’re lifting weights, it’s a fun and easy way to spend more time together, while still doing things that better your life. Plus, there are so many fun couples classes popping up – like couples yoga or kizomba dancing – that’ll get you both breaking a sweat and spending quality time with bae.
