On late Thursday night, we gathered to the newest restaurant and bar, The Bungalow, for an unveiling – or should we say Monveiling. We at XX are big fans of Sarah Jane Waddell (she graced our cover last year alongside fellow 95.1 star DJ Dani), and we were as excited as ever to see what she’d release for her Monday Wear collection this year.
Armed with only the theme name, “Glitter”, we were anxious to see what the supermodel-turned-designer would roll out for Carnival 2019. And we were not disappointed. Sarah Jane released 8 different costumes, including one appropriately named Queen of Harts, recognizing her first-time partnership with the Harts Carnival band. Every piece glittered and shimmered, featuring sky high leg cuts and the perfect mix of bold and bling for the road, and we’re already envisioning the girl gangs on the road dressed head-to-toe in SJW Designs.
We say head to toe, because SJW has thought of it all. Each model strutted onto the stage wearing not only her Monday Wear design, but sectioned accessories to boot. Sunglasses, earrings and cuffs all took the Monveiling to the next level. Perhaps we should thank Sarah Jane’s beauty queen background for inspiring her to turn Monday into a fashion show.
After seeing her mirrored creations from last year’s “Midas” all over the road during Trinidad Carnival, and later in Barbados, Miami and the UK, we quickly learned that anything SJ touches turns to gold. But the real question was: is all that glitters really gold? Let’s find out…
