There’s just over two weeks until the end of the year, and it’s starting to hit us just how close 2019 really is. While 2018 might not have gone exactly as planned for all of us, it taught us a lot of life lessons. Whether you learned something in love, friendships, self-improvement, health or your career, this year strove to leave us with a lesson or two whether we like it or not.
With 2019 so rapidly approaching, we think it’s important to take the time to focus on what this year gave us so that we are ready to welcome the new year and all of its lessons. So before you ring in the New Year on Old Year’s Night, you might want to do these things first.
As any year comes to a close – whether it was particularly good or bad – it’s a great time to celebrate all that you experienced, look forward to new opportunities and just relish in the memories of the year gone by.
As 2019 creeps closer, you might find yourself celebrating the fact that 2018 is finally finished, or you’ll revel in the fact that another glorious year full of experiences, opportunities and moments has happened.
What better way to start a new year than by celebrating all that has passed in the old! There’s something so therapeutic about that joie de vivre – and it promotes a happy and joyous new year to come.
They say in order to truly move forward, you must look back, and that’s just as true for years. Before the end of the year, take some time to think about the past 12 months.
How did it go? What did you experience? What would you do differently? What did you wish never happened? Or alternatively, what were you happy to have done or seen?
Before you move into a new year, think of all of these things so that you can enter 2019 with the right mindset, with clearcut goals and accurate resolutions. Knowing all that you’ve experienced in the past is the best way to prepare you for what may come in the future.
ACCEPT YOUR MISTAKES PAST:
Let’s be real: we’re only human. 2018 wasn’t a perfect year for anyone by any means.
In fact, it’s from making mistakes and experiencing failures that we truly grow, but that doesn’t mean it’s always a hard pill to swallow. Accepting your mistakes and failures can be a hard thing, but it’s important when entering a new year.
It makes no sense to embark on a new chapter while holding onto past mistakes. Accept what has happened, take note and learn from your errors. It’s in this process that you’ll truly experience growth – and you’ll see your life and your self get better year after year, and there’s so much power in that.
OPEN YOUR HEART TO 2019:
Perhaps the most important thing you can do before the end of the year is to prepare yourself emotionally for the new one.
Every year brings trials and tribulations that will test your emotions, your strength and your willpower – and it’s important to be open and ready for these tests. Closing yourself and your heart off to a new opportunity will only harm you in the long run. It’s important, no matter how scared you may be, that you let go and open yourself up to anything that may come your way in 2019.
Yes, there may be mistakes, failures and times of trouble, but you’ll learn a lot, laugh a lot and love a lot in the process.
